Story

Team posing during opening sequence Many centuries ago, an evil spirit named Dai Shi roamed freely across the Earth, waging a “Beast War” in order to purge the Earth of humans and leave it ruled solely by animals. Fortunately, through valiant fighting, the Pài Zhuǎ, a group of kung fu martial artists, were able to conquer the evil spirit, and have since been able to keep him locked away. The secret of their prisoner and their duty to keep him under control was passed along from generation to generation of Pài Zhuǎ members. The school always had three warriors, aware of their mission, always at the ready in case Dai Shi escaped. For years though, their talents have not been needed.

Now, in modern times, Dai Shi has escaped and three new warriors have been selected by the Pài Zhuǎ to find and destroy him. The three warriors must go to where evil once made its home, a land once uninhabited, now known as Ocean Bluff. In their new home, the warriors must assume normal lives working at a pizza parlor under the guidance of their boss and new kung fu master, who gives them the power to morph into the secretive Power Rangers. Their master and an old friend both join the Rangers on the battlefield as Dai Shi gains new allies that threaten them even more.

Articles

Note: The following links may contain spoilers as they give information up to the last aired episode of the season. This is especially the case with character profiles.

Rangers

Casey Rhodes - Red Ranger. A novice member of the Pài Zhuǎ who shows great potential and a strong sense of justice. He has the most raw strength of the team, and embodies the Tiger spirit.
Lily Chilman - Yellow Ranger. A skilled fighter who is fun-loving and vivacious. She finds it easy to go with the flow when new challenges arise. She serves as the heart of the team, and embodies the Cheetah spirit.
Theo Martin - Blue Ranger. A smart and strong fighter, but is straight-laced and by the books. Can handle things well in battle, but has trouble dealing with unknowns when it comes to life, as he likes to be in control. He shows the most intelligence of the group, and embodies the Jaguar spirit.
Robert 'R.J.' James - Wolf Ranger. The Rangers' boss and master; gives them both their powers and jobs at a pizza parlor for use as cover. Once the Rangers have spent enough time together and both gelled well as a team and increased their power level, he joins them on the battlefield. R.J. embodies the Wolf spirit.
Dominic Hargan - Rhino Ranger. A member of the Pài Zhuǎ who was to be a Guardian of Dai Shi, but refused as he felt that it wasn't his true path in life. He traveled the country by himself for years trying to find his place before coming to Ocean Bluff, realizing that his destiny was to be a Power Ranger. He embodies the Rhinoceros spirit.
Spirit Rangers - A trio of Rangers created by the Phantom Beast Generals; initially corporeal bodies linked to the spirits of others.

Allies

Fran - A bookish nerd with no friends and busy family who is a regular customer at the pizza parlor. She's offered a job by R.J. when he realizes they'd need the extra help when the Rangers have to take off during business hours.
Master Mao - The Rangers' previous master. His physical body was destroyed when trying to protect the Rangers from the newly released Dai Shi, but he continues to exist and help the Rangers in spirit form. Mao embodies the Caracal spirit.
Master Phant - Lily's personal master. Embodies the Elephant spirit.
Master Swoop - Theo's personal master. Embodies the Bat spirit.
Master Finn - Casey's personal master, and R.J.'s father. Embodies the Shark spirit.
Flit - An odd fly-like creature that tends (possibly not of his choice) to make his home in Camille's stomach. He pops out to provide boxing-style commentary during Zord battles.

Civilians

Other Civilians and Allies - One-shot characters.

Villains

Dai Shi - An evil spirit who warred against the humans centuries ago, and was locked away by the best warriors of the Pài Zhuǎ. He has since escaped and is wreaking havoc in modern times. He seemingly embodies the Dragon spirit.
Jarrod - A long time student of the Pài Zhuǎ who let his desire for glory go to his head, and was consequently kicked out. Dai Shi has possessed his body to further his goals of destroying all humans. Jarrod embodies the Lion spirit.
Camille - One of Dai Shi's foremost warriors, hibernating in the walls of his abandoned lair for over 10,000 years until his release. She has the ability to change her form, and embodies the Chameleon spirit.
Carnisoar - The Sky Overlord. Jarrod revived him in order to train under him and increase his potential. He embodies the Hawk spirit.
Jellica - The Sea Overlord. Camille revived her in order to overthrow Carnisoar, whose methods of training Jarrod she disagreed with. She embodies the Jellyfish spirit.
Grizzaka - The Land Overlord. Revived by Camille per instructions by Carnisoar and Jellica, Grizzaka proceeded to overthrow Dai Shi and take over operations, due to his hatred of humanity, and thus Dai Shi's human body, as well as Dai Shi's failures in the Beast War. He embodies the Grizzly Bear spirit.
Phantom Beasts - A group of powerful warriors trapped in Crystal Eyes for millenia until they were freed by Jellica. They have given their allegiance to Dai Shi.
Monsters and Footsoldiers - Disposable forces used by the villains in this season.

Items

Weapons - The weapons the Rangers use in battle, including team enhancements, mode changes, and Battlizers.
Vehicles - Methods of transportation the Rangers use.
Other Items - Items that appeared in the season which weren’t classified in the above two lists.

Zords

Animal Spirits - The Rangers regularly release the spirits of the animals they call to when needed during battles, but when centered as a team, they can release those same spirits at mecha size. Merging with the spirits then gives them physical form, and allows them to function as zords.
Jungle Pride Megazord - The Megazord formed when the Tiger, Cheetah, and Jaguar spirits combine forces. Extra animal spirits can attach to the Megazord for additional weaponry and abilities.
Jungle Master Megazord - The secondary Megazord formed when the Gorilla, Penguin, and Antelope spirits combine forces. Like Jungle Pride Megazord, extra animal spirits can attach to add new weaponry and abilities.
Rhino Pride Megazord - The Rhino Ranger's personal Megazord, formed when the Rhino Spirit switches into its own Warrior Mode.

Locations

Pài Zhuǎ - A secret society that trains students to harness their animal spirits and become martial arts masters.
Ocean Bluff - Centuries ago, this uninhabited area was the site of the Beast War between the Pài Zhuǎ and Dai Shi. In modern times, this normal city serves as the base of operations for the Rangers.
Jungle Karma Pizza - A popular hangout for young people in the Ocean Bluff area. The loft-style second story serves as the base of operations of the Rangers.
Temple of the Dai Shi - A seemingly ancient building on a tall mountain, similar to a Pài Zhuǎ monastery, where Dai Shi and Camille control their forces.

Episodes

The following episodes are listed in the order they best fit continuity-wise. This is generally close, if not identical, to production order, but it may not always match that or airing order, especially with the older seasons. P# is Production Number, the order in which the episodes were filmed/produced. A# is Airing Number, the order in which the episodes actually aired. For in-show timeline, a. = after, b. = between, and p. = prior to (before).

The episode links lead to pages with full transcripts and screenshots, so expect spoilers if you haven't seen every episode below.

Note: All writers from episodes 16-25 and 27-28 do not exist; most of the names are anagrams related to the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike.

Trivia

  • First season where the morpher and morphing motions are entirely different from the source material. The individual Ranger poses are from the source material, but heavily condensed.
  • Jungle Fury initially started out with the working title “Beast Fist” until BVS Entertainment filed trademarks for “Jungle Fury”. The working title comes directly from the source material in fact: Juken Sentai Gekiranger translates to Beast-Fist Squadron Fierce Ranger.
